How Does the Cricket Chirp?????

Today at school we found a cricket hidden in the hallway!  We put it in a jar and brought it into the classroom.  It chirped a lot during the day.  We were curious as to how it made that noise.  We gathered some of the childrens' ideas and wrote them on chart paper. We watched the video The Very Quiet Cricket by Eric Carle to find out the answer!  Jimmy was right!  Crickets rub their wings together to make the chirping sound!  We had a chance to watch it happen! The cricket in our classroom was chirping a lot and we watched the wings move and rub together!
