Grocery Store Scavenger Hunt
On Thursday our class made their way to Sobey's. At the store, they completed a scavenger hunt. They had fun exploring the store and discovering all the different food that can be purchased there.
The children agreed that seeing a lobster out of the tank was one of the high points of the trip! |

Going on a Letter Hunt!
Today we went on a Letter Hunt around the school. We were looking for the letters Aa and Tt. You can do your own "Letter Hunt" while out in the community, walking or driving, challenge your child to spot letters. They may find them on street signs or on store and restaurant signs.

Our Fire Station!
After our fire visit from Firefighter Girard and reading some books about fire stations, we came up with a list of what we need to create our own Fire Station!
We painted a sign for our Fire Station!
Our Firefighters at work!
Our Vocabulary Words:
We often post a list of words at centres for the adults to use when observing and interacting with the children at that centre. Read these words and try to use them as often as you can to increase your child's vocabulary level:

Fire Safety
Today we had a visit from Sparky the Firedog and Firefighter Girard. We talked about fire safety and got to climb aboard the fire truck. The children were so excited to hear the siren!
Our School Arcade!
Ms. Hazel's Grade Five class created an arcade. Our class was invited to come! It was a choice if they wanted to visit the arcade. 16 of our friends did! We got tickets after our games. We had to count our tickets as a class. There was a prize for the class with the most tickets!
A walk in the woods!
On Thursday, our class went for a walk in the "woods" at the back of our school yard. We were looking for signs of fall. We discovered that the leaves on the trees here have not changed colour much yet. Only a few leaves have fallen so far. We will go back next week and see if there are any more changes.
Ainsley found one leaf that has turned red. |
We spotted a nest in the tree, could it be a squirrels nest? |
Some students found nut shells, they look like they were chewed, could it be that a squirrel had a little snack? |

The Squirrel!
Some if our friends are listening to the rap song to the poem, The Squirrel! We are talking a lot about following the words left- to right and top-to -bottom. We have been discussing the title and spaces between the words. We used this poem to talk about the rhyming words! Practise these concepts at home when you are reading with your child!

Our Outside Observations!
A few weeks ago we put sunflower seeds in the bird feeder in the front of our school! We wanted to see if the birds would eat them! We discovered that they did!
