Special Visitor!

Today we welcomed Mr. Brendon into our classroom to sing and play the guitar.  We sang a song from the movie Toy Story called A Friend In Me. We sang a very fast version of The Wheels On The Bus?  He sang the song If I Had A Million Dollars and asked what they would buy with a million dollars and plugged their names and responses into the song.  Here are some responses:  Play dough, a guitar, snake skylander and a bunny car!  The next song was A Yellow Submarine.  Next came out the shakers as we sang the newest hit song....Happy!  The next song we were shaking to was Lie Is A Highway!  Scooby Doo song was fun!  At the end we all had a chance to choose a guitar pick and play his guitar!  What a fun time!

Fred the Fish!

Today we told the story of Fred the Fish.  He lives in a nice clean river.  He is happy.  He takes an adventure and travels downstream.  He swims into farm country where soil falls in the water.  He swims near housing development and fertilizer falls into the water.  He swims beside parking lots and oil from leaking cars fall in the water.  As he keeps going there is salt and garbage and pollution from factories!  We learn that Fred is not a happy fish at the end of his adventure!  Our friends say, let's protect our water!

Sink or Float?

The students have been introduced to a few objects and 2 containers with water at the science centre.      They are discovering the concept of sink and float!  Some are sinking and drowning says one friend.  We discuss the objects that sink or float.  At home provide some objects in the bathtub and discuss things that sink and float.  Have your child draw a picture of some objects that floated or sank and bring to school to share!

At The Water Table!

The water table has been a busy place this week!  The children are enjoying problem solving how to keep the water in the containers that have holes in them!  Here are the conversations:
I know! If you hold your palm at the bottom where the holes are, the water won't come out!
Look! We made something so the water can't come out!
